Morning drive to Gangtey.
Cross Dochula Pass (3,080m) and enjoy beautiful mountain views, chortens, mani walls and prayer flags.
On a clear day, you can see some of Bhutan’s highest peaks.

Morning visit to Gangtey Goempa, located on a small hill rising from the valley floor.
From the monastery, enjoy a nature trail through pine forests and the crane roosting area.
The valley is the winter home of the rare Black-Necked Cranes migrating from Tibet.

Morning drive to Bumthang.
Stop at Chendbji Chorten, built in the style of Kathmandu’s Swayambhunath Stupa.
In Trongsa, visit:
Trongsa Dzong (1648)
Museum of Monarchy (Ta-Dzong Watch Tower – 1652)
Later cross Yutong-La Pass (3,400m / 11,155 ft) and reach Bumthang.

After lunch, visit Jakar Dzong (“The Dzong of the White Bird”) and then take a stroll through Bumthang Market.

Morning drive to Punakha via Chumey, crossing Yutong-La Pass (3,400m) and Pele-La Pass (3,300m).

Morning hike to Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten.
Later visit Punakha Dzong, the winter seat of the Je Khenpo (Chief Abbot).
Afternoon walk through paddy fields to visit Chimi Lhakhang – the fertility temple of the Divine Madman.

After a relaxed breakfast, excursion to Taktsang Monastery (Tiger’s Nest) – approx. 5-hour hike.
